Looking for an experienced developer or administrator using Datatel Colleague, Unidata database, Unibasic or Envision Basic.

Java Agile Developer

If you enjoy working in an Agile environment and believe in testing early and testing often, this may be for you.

The Software Developer will be responsible for application development and support of high-quality, electronic products. The Developer will work in a highly collaborative, cross functional and Agile team and may take a lead role on various software components. The Developer will also be responsible for developing unit testing and overall integration tests for the project team.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

Designs and codes application components in an Agile environment utilizing a test driven development approach
Assists in the creation and maintenance of project tasks and schedules
Assists in providing programming estimates identifying potential problems and recommending alternative solutions
Works in close cooperation with project managers and other functional team members to form a team effort in development
Collaborates with other members of the product development team
Coordinates configuration of back-end components in support of application development
Uses pair programming approach to ensure consistently high quality code
Performs analysis and debugging
Provides direction/shares knowledge with and mentors team members in areas of expertise
Open to continuously learning from team members
Identifies and continuously acts to enhance individual and team knowledge of new technologies, business processes, and project management skills, staying abreast of trends, latest industry developments and knowledge sharing among colleagues
Provides development, support, and may assume lead role for portions of one or more applications which may span multiple product or platform development teams
Timely and accurate completion of assigned software development and/or maintenance tasks
Participates in and may lead weekly iteration demos for product managers
Reports status of assigned software development and/or maintenance tasks
Consistently follows software development methodology

Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

Basic (Required)

BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and recent, relevant work experience
Minimum 6 years software development experience including 3 years of Java programming experience
Experience working in an Agile development environment
Strong familiarity with design patterns such as MVC architecture model
Thorough understanding of and experience in object oriented design and programming
Experience with Java/J2EE, web services and development of service oriented applications
Familiarity with wide portfolio of software development applications, environments and languages, such as Linux, Servlets JSP, PHP, etc.
Experience using source code control systems, such as CVS or Subversion
Experience developing on application servers such as Apache Tomcat, BEA Weblogic, or Websphere
Knowledge of XML parsing, and XSLT
Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
Creative problem solving skills and ability to effectively communicate and translate feedback, needs and solutions
Must have strong teamwork orientation and the ability to foster collaboration within and across teams
Must be sensitive to cultural differences in interactions and in the way work is done
Needs strong sense of ownership of end result
May require up to 10% travel, including international travel

Advanced degree preferred
Experience with Test Driven Development
Pair programming experience
Experience in Scrum team environments
Experience with Struts, Seam, Spring Webflow
Experience with Hibernate
Experience with LDAP, RDBMS, Oracle, Sybase
Knowledge of search engine development, particularly with Lucene
Experience developing for Web 2.0/3.0
Knowledge of Java Portlet development, JSR168/286
Experience working with library-specific technology such as OPAC, Open URL, and Z39.50
Leadership skills and experience managing the work of development staff
